Unpacking standards: This first activity was extremely important in my opinion because it
would be difficult to teach without having a strong and firm standard to base
your units and plans on. This activity
has broadened my knowledge on what a good standard is and how it can be used to
create objectives and lesson plans. It is also a good indicator that helps
students understand and know what is expected from them. In addition standards
set the barriers and benchmarks for students and teachers as well . As a
teacher is shows you what you have to deliver in order for students to become
successful and meet the standard.
Backwards Mapping: This activity was very beneficial for me as it opened my eyes to
different types of assessments I can use in physical education. It can be compared
to an outline that gets the teacher organized for a specific unit. For me this
activity was great because backwards mapping is a very effective organizational
tool for teachers. It keeps you on top of things and better prepared to teach
your class.
Smart Objectives: This activity is important for students and teachers. It is important
for students because they know what is expected of them, and it is important
for teachers because it is a great organizational tool for students. If
students are well organized and have a plan to reach their goal, it is a great
first step. This will facilitate the communication flow amongst teachers and
students, which in result will foster effective and efficient learning and
teaching. I will be using this in the future to assist my students in
developing personal fitness goals as well as goals for a specific unit.
